This podcast is an excerpt from the Rasa Gemstone Essences lecture by Dr. Robin Murphy, ND. This two-day seminar presented by Dr. Robin Murphy is a synthesis of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Alchemy, Medical Astrology, Qi Gong energetics, and the ancient science of gems. Across nearly ten hours of teaching, Dr. Murphy leads you through the history, theory, and practical use of more than fifty gemstone essences and related energetic remedies.

In the set of tapes I have called Comparative Materia Medica, I teach people how to do what’s called synthetic prescribing. And that’s a real simple technique. That if I know what calcium does, and I know what phosphorus does, then I know 70% of what calcium phosphate will do. If I know chlorine and I know sodium, then I know Nat Mur. Nat Mur will have other stuff on top.
Now all the gems, which no one ever came to the gem world with this approach, all the gems are made up of mineral combinations. They’re all combination mineral remedies. And if anybody’s been taking the cell salts, you’ll know how powerful combination mineral remedies are. And the popularity today of all the colloidal minerals and the trace mineral tonic, and it’s just everywhere. There’s something about this.
And this goes way back to alchemy. They said the minerals formed a matrix. The matrix of the human body was minerals. When we make a spagyric, we’re doing all this extra work to get the plant minerals out. Even our herbal form of medicine is going after the minerals. Sixty-six percent of homeopathic materia medica is plants. And we make spagyrics out of all that. We want the plant salts. It’s what makes our herbs different from what’s on the regular market.
So even alchemists went after plants. And everything that the regular herbalists throw away is the most valuable to us. And the jewelers, what they throw away is the most valuable. They throw away—some have industrial use—but diamond dust, ruby dust, every time they cut a gem, they throw away the powder. Every time a herbalist, it's so similar, makes a herb, they filter it out, and they have all the pulp in there, and they throw away the pulp. All the mineral salt.
So all our spagyric understanding and prescribing minerals and stuff in homeopathy all comes back to understanding cell salts. So to me, this is a step up from the cell salts.
There’s a gem called fluorite. F-L-O-U-R-I-T-E. Fluorite. Ninety-nine percent of what? Calcium fluoride. So I know how to use fluorite because I’ve used calcium fluoride for twenty, thirty years. And I believe, and I predict, that you’ll find this fluorite gem better than the calcium fluoride single pure extract.
And likewise, in the herbal kingdom, if they go in and they take out what’s called the alkaloids from the herbs, and they do all the scientific research on it, and they’re trying to make the drugs—digitalis is the alkaloid from the foxglove plant—so they take one part of it, the plant out, and make a drug. And then we see all the stuff with that.
And the same with the gem world. All our single minerals and stuff are really extracts from iron ore and pyrites and shells and sand and dirt. So this is the origin of all the cell salts and all the gold and silver and all the stuff that we’ve been using homeopathically.
So if you redo those tapes or get some notes and stuff, you’ll see how to do synthetic prescribing. This is lemon juice and this is sugar water, and I mix them, I can predict how it’s going to taste. So if this is lemon juice and I put something very bitter in it, I can predict how it’s going to taste. If this is calcium and fluoride and I know Calc Fluor, I can predict how this will work.
And then I go back and look at the legends. What did they use this for? Number one use was what? To make the teeth and bones stronger. In the folklore written a thousand, two thousand years ago. They didn’t know about chemistry. They didn’t know the fluoride existed or calcium fluoride. They didn’t know any of that. And that’s the confirmation.
So that’s my thinking. I’m combining the knowledge of the cell salts and the homeopathic minerals and being able to predict that, and then see from my prediction which one holds up in the folklore. And those that hold up are the distillation that you have. Okay? I know it will do this. Okay, I know it will do that because it’s made of this.
Now I did the back just for you. The last five pages go to there, or the (Rasa Gemstone Essences) workbook. Page 81 (131 in the current edition). I went and found the basic chemicals of five hundred different gems for you. Now my original list was five thousand five hundred thirty-something. So I had to go through that list of five thousand. The Internet’s wonderful. [Laughter]
So from that five thousand I narrowed it down to five hundred. You can look up a lot of things. Take one, number sixty, betafite. Okay? Never heard of it, don’t know what it is, but this is how I go look through it. I see what looks good, then I go research it, and I find the polycrest that contains calcium, sodium, uranium, titanium. What’s that? Niobium, never heard of that. Tantalum oxide and hydroxide fluoride. If that’s not a combination remedy, I don’t know what it is, but it’s a combination remedy found in nature. Okay? Not made by an intellectual in a lab. “Oh, I think this, this, and that, these five remedies will help.” Right?
So you can look at all this. Look at eighty-five. Number eighty-five is calcite. Okay, it’s almost pure calcium carbonate. Get right here. Okay, so I know Calc Carb, so I can prescribe any calcite easily.
Now the beauty is that one percent. That one percent makes all the gems unique. It’s not the ninety-nine percent. The difference between a ruby and a sapphire—a yellow sapphire, a blue sapphire—is almost zero. From bright red to dark blue to bright yellow, ninety-nine point nine percent of the chemicals are the same. It’s that small amount, that one percent, that makes it red, yellow, or blue. But it’s all the same chemicals.
Okay, and for years I’ve been talking about not using deodorants because it contains what? Aluminum what? Aluminum silicate. And you’ll see the top gems are aluminum silicates. Silica dioxide, beryllium silicate dioxide, and we know beryllium, we know silica, we know oxygen. We know all the ingredients of it. And then with that knowledge I went in and studied the folklore. Okay.
Otherwise, you know, I don’t want to be critical, but it’s pretty strange how these people come up with indications of how to use the gems. It’s really off their—right off the top of their head. They’ve done no research. Some people hold it and they close their eyes, and whatever they feel and think at that time, I go look at their chart and see why it’s in their chart that they’re feeling it. “Oh, I feel depressed.” That’s maybe part of the research.
When you have whole books and whole systems and whole companies built on someone’s intuition, to me that’s not enough. Okay. So I feel I want to be grounded and then include all that too as possibilities. So some things in your workbook slip back in.
And then the Vedic people, the Ayurvedic people, Vedic astrologers are the worst, the most superstitious, and they instill so much fear in people that it’s unbelievable. And I’ll read a case or two just to show you that this is not what we’re doing. Okay.
So that’s the whole theory. I’m combining cell salt knowledge and homeopathic knowledge of the minerals and alchemical and folklore.
